Abstract
Controversy continues concerning the use of McBride evaluation system for functional assessment and disability evaluation following motor vehicle accidents (MVA). The other systems used are National Compensation Law, Industrial Injury Compensation Security Law, the American Medical Association(AMA) Guides, and Korean Neuropsychiatric Association Task Force Report. None of these systems does not exist to support their use for evaluation of mental and behavioral disabilities following MVA. This study aims to suggest the new guideline based on McBride system for the purpose.
We surveyed two hundred twenty expert reports on disability evaluation from 1996 to 1999, and found several problems of the disability evaluation by psychiatrists. We also conducted two stage survey. First, we sent the questionnaire which was included six vignettes in order to obtain the data about disability evaluation by psychiatrists to three hundreds fifty-six psychiatrists in training hospital. The response rate was 26.4%. Second, we surveyed twenty expert psychiatrists for disability evaluation with similar questionnaire which was included two vignettes and draft of guideline. We summarized the findings of three studies, and suggested the new guideline based on McBride evaluation system for the mental and behavioral disabilities following MVA.
